Rockland Sons of Italy Helps Homes for Heroes
The lodge recently held a fundraiser for the local nonprofit.
The Rockland Sons of Italy Lodge 2176 recently held a fundraiser for Homes for Heroes in conjunction with Rockland County Legislator John Murphy who has championed the program through Habitat for Humanity of Rockland.
The event raised $2,000 for the local charity.
Two local nonprofit organizations, Rockland Housing Action Coalition and Joseph’s Home, Inc., conceived the Homes for Heroes project which has a goal of providing permanent, supportive and affordable rental housing for homeless, service disabled veterans and their families in the two-four unit garden-style apartment buildings on the site of the former Camp Shanks in Tappan.

“Many of the individuals who will have an opportunity to live in these apartments gave everything they had for this country and our goal is to make sure they aren’t forgotten and are able to live out their lives with dignity,” said Murphy in a prepared statement. “We are very grateful to the Rockland Sons of Italy Lodge for their help in raising funds for this important project.”
Bobby Iorio and Richie Ianazzo coordinated the special evening for the Lodge which was titled “Bocelli Night” and featured Freddie Lando singing beautiful music of Andrea Bocelli and other famous great artists. More than 80 people attended and enjoyed the buffet dinner provided with Joe & Joe’s Restaurant in Pearl River facilitated by Carl Dornbush who is a member of the Homes for Heroes management team.
