Rockland to March for Babies in Pearl River

Rockland County's March of Dimes March for Babies is set for Sunday, May 5 at Blue Hill Plaza in Pearl River.

The March of Dimes is celebrating its 75 years by continuing its efforts to promote the birth of healthier babies.

The national non-profit's primary events are its March for Babies walks through communities all over the United States, helping to support prenatal wellness programs, funding research, support programs for newborn intensive care units and promoting awareness of health concerns for infants.

The Rockland County March for Babies will begin its five-mile walk through Pearl River at Blue Hill Plaza at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 5. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. The event features a bounce house, food and activites for children.

Premature birth is one of the largest health risks for infants and a focal point of the March of Dime's efforts. Each year, families who have seen its impact share their stories at the March for Babies. This year, the Verzi family from Thiells will be the Rockland Ambassador Family. Franco Verzi, now a healthy 6-year-old, was born 14 weeks early and spent his first three months in the hospital.
