Cortlandt Manor, NY – (June 3, 2013) Runners and walkers of all ages braved the early summer heat on June 1st to celebrate Northeast Doulas’ 10th Anniversary and the “No Child Wet Behind” fundraiser and diaper driver to benefit the Westchester Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless, Inc.

The event presented by Northeast Doulas and Hudson Valley Hospital Center included a 10k, 5k, and one-mile fun run followed by a celebration with entertainment and activities for the whole family. More than 300 supporters participated in the fun-filled festivities, and thousands of diapers were collected to kick off the Westchester Coalition’s new Diaper Coalition program.

“We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our 10th Anniversary,” said Randy Patterson, co-owner of NED. “A day of fun with families to celebrate this important milestone for us and supporting the babies in our community who need it most, it just doesn’t get any better than that.”

One in three American moms struggles with diaper need. The impact on little ones in Westchester and across the nation includes increased disease risk—diaper rash, staph infections, hepatitis—because families don’t have enough diapers they might only change the baby’s diaper once a day, or rinse and reuse it; and increased child abuse, like shaken baby syndrome, because babies cry more when wearing dirty diapers.

Race awards were presented for the top finishers, and each child who participated in the fun run received a special commemorative ribbon. Top times included: Overall 10K: 1st Chris Jankowski of Plesantville 44:01.8 2nd Kristen Herde of Croton On Hudson 45:39.1 3rd Mabel Cabrera-Falcon of Yorktown Heights 45:56.8 Overall 5K: 1st Matthew Sayre of Garrison 20:05.1 2nd Fredrick A Lent Jr of Yonkers 20:28.1 3rd Simon Aaslander of Croton 21:16.8 A full list of participants’ finishing times can be found at http://www.coolrunning.com/results/13/ny/Jun1_NoChil_set1.shtml and on the Northeast Doulas Facebook Page.

Hudson Valley Hospital Center served as the event’s Title Sponsor. Other Sponsors included Shades of Green, Spirelli Electric Inc., Newholme Financial Services Inc., A.S.A.P Mortgage, Cantarello Catering & Personal Chef Service, CryoCell International, Gymboree, Law Office of Andrew Falk, Mount Kisco Child Care Center, Dr. Sean M.
