Peekskill Sex Abuser Convicted in Murder for Hire Plot

A Peekskill man involved in a plot to kill the woman he sexually abused three years ago will serve 5 to 10 additional years in prison, according to a report that ran  in the Buffalo News last week.

Brendon Berndt, 27, of Peekskill, pleaded guilty to second-degree conspiracy last month after he allegedly tried to hire an undercover state police officer to kill the woman he was convicted of abusing in 2009.

Berndt was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse after he sexually assaulted a 25-year-old woman while she was walking on Route 6 in Cortlandt.

Officials said Berndt agreed to pay the undercover investigator $10,000 to murder his victim because he thought it would help him during his parole board meeting.

Berndt has served nearly two years out of a three to three-and-a-half year prison sentence for the sex abuse charge. Berndt will start serving his sentence for the conspiracy charge after he does his time for the sex abuse conviction.
