An 81-year-old Peekskill woman was killed in a car crash Sunday; three others injured.

Peekskill Woman Dead, Three Injured in Route 9 Crash

One Peekskill woman died and her daughter and two others were injured in a car crash on Route 9 Sunday, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s office. At about 2:15 p.m. a sedan and a pickup truck collided and the car carrying three people struck a stone wall and overturned one quarter mile south of Travis Corners Road in the Garrison section of Philipstown.

The Garrison Fire Department extricated the occupants, who had all sustained injuries.

Peekskill resident Willie Mae Bolton, 81, was rushed to where she later died. The driver, Bolton’s daughter Juanita Bolton, and the third passenger, Robert Taylor, of Peekskill, were also injured. Juanita Bolton was flown by a New York State Police helicopter to the Westchester Medical Center. Taylor was transported to the Westchester Medical Center Emergency Department by Care One Ambulance Service. Police had no further information as to the condition of either Juanita Bolton or Taylor Sunday night.

The pick up truck driver, 61-year-old Mohegan Lake resident Claudio Crescenzo refused medical attention at the scene of the accident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Crescenzo was driving his 2008 Chevrolet pick up truck northbound on Route 9 and attempted to make a left turn from the driving lane. At the same time, Bolton was driving a 2009 Toyota sedan, also traveling northbound on Route 9. Her car was being driven in the passing lane of the roadway and attempting to overtake Crescenzo’s truck.  The two vehicles collided, then skidded northbound into the southbound lane of traffic, off the travel portion of the roadway and then crashed into a stone wall.  Upon hitting the wall, Bolton’s car overturned and trapped the three occupants.

Based on the investigation conducted by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team, Claudio Crescenzo was issued a summons, citing him for Changing Lanes Unsafely.  He is due to appear in Philipstown Justice Court at a later date.

Uniformed deputies and criminal investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, along with members of the Garrison Fire Department, Garrison and Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Care One Ambulance Service, TransCare paramedics and the New York State Police responded to the scene.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The accident investigation is continuing.
