Peekskill Youth Police Academy Celebrates 10 Years

The 10th Annual Academy begins today.

Peekskill Youth Police Academy Celebrates 10 Years

Thank you to the City of Peekskill Police Department for sending this information: The City of Peekskill Police Department is proud to announce the 10th Annua begins on Monday, July 30, 2012.  Since 2003, over two hundred youth have attended this two week free program and experienced what the day in the life of a police officer consists of.

Through the years, cadets, taught by Peekskill Police Officers, have been involved in simulated car stops, building searches, DWI stops, crime scenes as well as trips to experience the City of Newburgh marine patrol, state police K-9 patrol, NY National Guard Air Force Base at Stewart, and the New York City Police Museum.

Each year, the Academy also teams up with the Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES Madden Center in Kent to participate in a challenge course to learn how to problem solve through communication, collaboration, and cooperation.  The cadets bond quickly and work together as a team – an essential component of police survival.  This year the cadets will celebrate 10 years with a closing ceremony scheduled for the afternoon of August 10, 2012.  Key contributors to the academy’s success through the years are Entergy, Wheelabrator of Westchester, and Dominoes Pizza of Cortlandt Manor and Piazza Roma Restaurant of Mohegan Lake.
