Thanksgiving Dishes Needed for Sandy Relief

The Sandy Relief Team is taking cooked Thanksgiving dishes to Sandy victims, with your help.

Thanksgiving Dishes Needed for Sandy Relief

The Pelham Community Relief Team is still working hard for Sandy victims. Their latest campaign is to bring a home-cooked dinner to hard-hit storm areas on Thanksgiving Day next Thursday.

Displaced residents in Howard Beach are unable to cook, so the volunteer group intends to do it for them, sharing the bounty of the holiday despite the constraints.

PCRT needs volunteers to donate cooked, packaged dishes and to help with the caravan to deliver them to Howard Beach.

"Start your Thanksgiving Day off by bringing hot, prepared food items to the parking lot at Huguenot Church between 8:30-9:00 a.m.," asked Louise Kelley of Huguenot Memorial Church. "Volunteers will transport your donations to a community center in Howard Beach that was severely affected by Superstorm Sandy."

Here's everything you need to know to pitch in the effort:

Please contribute any of the following prepared, hot foods to feed a minimum of 12 people:

  • Sliced Ham or Turkey
  • Gravy
  • Stuffing
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Green Beans or Other Vegetables
  • Bread, Cranberry Sauce, Butter
  • Pies

VERY IMPORTANTFood must be cooked, hot and tightly sealed in ALUMINUM FOIL SERVING CONTAINERS.  Food will be kept hot on sterno racks at the community center.  Condiments must be in covered, disposable containers.

WE NEED TO KNOW FOOD & QUANTITIESPlease contact Sona Davidian (McClellan Realty) or Lisa Kiernan with the food items you plan to donate AND the number of servings.  You can reach Sona via e-mail at sona.davidian@gmail.com or via phone to the agency at (914) 738-5150.  You can reach Lisa via phone at (914) 738-2328.

Some of you have asked whether we are accepting cash donations for this relief effort.  We are, and checks should be made payable to Huguenot Church, with a notation that it is for the Pelham Community Relief Effort.  Financial contributions will cover costs for food, supplies and other items needed by storm victims.
