The big weekend to honor our nation's war dead and kick off summer is here. This is your guide to the major events around town for Sunday and Monday.

Plainview-Old Bethpage Memorial Day Parade

When/Where: The Plainview-Old Bethpage Memorial Day Parade steps off Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Pasadena Drive and Old Country Road. It proceeds east over N.Y. 135, past and Morton Village to the . The route rolls left on Manetto Hill Road, then makes a quick right onto tree-lined Washington Avenue for the final push to

Following the parade, a memorial service will be held at the Veterans Monuments in the park. The aforementioned locations are great spots to find refreshments and view the parade, which draws thousands annually. There are bands, classic cars and firetrucks, and representatives of a wide range of veterans and civic organization.

's Classic Car Show:

Where/When: Monday at noon, the  is hosting a classic car show in its parking lot at the corner of Oak and Floral drives in Plainview. In addition, a holiday barbecue will be available on site. These vintage automobiles have been restored to the original showroom condition.

Where/When: Jones Beach State Park; Wantagh; Sunday, May 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A wide range of aircraft, ranging from modern super-sonic fighter jets to classic WWII bombers will be on display this weekend over Jones Beach. Last year, more than 300,000 people attended the two-day show, so come early and get a spot in the pristine white sand. The best view is said to be off of Fields 4 and 5, (the two parking fields straddling the water tower.)

Pricing: Free to view, a $10 fee is collected per vehicle upon entry of Jones Beach.

Where/ When: ; Sunday, May 29 at 10 a.m. Reflect and honor those who have served our country with this annual ceremony. The United Veterans Organization will be on hand along with other military units and local residents. In the midst of a weekend filled with fun and barbecues, this service is a good way to remember what Memorial Day is really about.
