Plainview Schools Closed: Dangerous Cold on Tap Wednesday
Temperatures, wind will be brutal today; Stay in if you can, experts say.
The school district, like many on Long Island, decided early Tuesday evening to call off all activities Wednesday. It came just after dusk, about the time that Plainview streets were becoming treacherous and Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency.
Today's forecast calls for the snow to end and temperatures not to surpass 20 degrees. As of 5 a.m. Wednesday, the wind was out of the north at 18 mph, with higher gusts. It feels like 8 or 9 below zero, and won't improve much over the day, according to the National Weather Service.
Digging out might be in order, but not unless you're dressed properly and in good health. These weather conditions are actually considered dangerous and, if you don't have to go out, authorities recommend you stay in.
