JBFC Announces New Board Leaders And Members
JBFC announced Janet Benton and Lynn Sobel both have new duties as Chair and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees at its Dec. 15 meeting.

From The Jacob Burns Film Center: The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) today announced that Janet Benton of Chappaqua was elected Chair of the Board of Trustees and Lynn Sobel of Dobbs Ferry was elected Vice Chair. The Board elected Benton and Sobel at its December 15 meeting after Hugh Price announced that he would be stepping down as Chair. In grateful appreciation for his leadership, the Board voted unanimously to designate Hugh Price as Chairman Emeritus.
“After serving as Vice Chair, I am honored to take on the role of Chair at such a significant time in the life of the Jacob Burns Film Center. I am also extremely fortunate to follow in the footsteps of Hugh Price, who guided us through a successful strategic planning process,” said Benton.

Sobel is the owner of Lynn Sobel & Associates, LLC, a development consulting firm. She is an honorary trustee and past board chair of the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry and serves on the advisory board of the Westchester Children’s Association. She is co-chair of the Education Committee of Impact100 and is a member of the Thursday Club, two organizations which focus on women’s collective philanthropy. She holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA from the University of Rochester.
The JBFC Board of Trustees also elected three new board members: John Nonna of Pleasantville, Heidi Rieger of Bedford, and Raymond Sanchez of Ossining. Each will serve a three-year term.

Nonna is a litigation partner at Squire Patton Boggs in New York City, where he has balanced his law practice with public service. He has served as acting Village Justice, trustee, and Mayor of Pleasantville before serving on the Westchester County Board of Legislators. Currently, he is co-chair of the Board of Directors of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and Chair of the Board of Trustees of Westchester Community College. He also chairs the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Federal Legislative Priorities and serves on the Special Committee on the New York State Constitution as well as a pro bono mediator in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and the New York State Supreme Court Commercial Division.
Heidi Rieger holds a BA from Barnard College and a Masters in Social Work from New York University. She is a founding member of Neshamot, a United Jewish Appeal Women’s Venture Philanthropy group which works to fund opportunities and programs that ensure Jewish continuity and serve at-risk populations. She helped establish J-Teen, a leadership group that empowers teens to make decisions on how to engage with the world. She sits on the Lawyers for Children board which advocates for children in and aging out of foster care.
Raymond Sanchez is Superintendent of the Ossining Union Free School District. He has served as President of the Lower Hudson Council of School Personnel Administrators, former President of the Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES Curriculum Council, and was a former liaison for New York State Association of Bilingual Educators. He is an adjunct professor at Mercy College, Manhattanville College, and Bank Street College of Education. He received the 2016 Excellence in Educational Leadership Award from the University Council for Education Administration.
