NY Woman Arraigned on Grand Larceny Charge in Pleasantville

Pleasantville Village Justice John Curley denied requests from both the Assistant District Attorney—who asked for bail to be increased—as well as the Legal Aid Society—who asked the defendant be set free—on Tuesday as a woman was arraigned on a felony grand larceny charge.

Gwendolyn Riddick, of New York, appeared in handcuffs during the April 16 criminal court session to answer to a charge of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree.

The 56-year-old, according to the Pleasantville Police Department, was arrested at approximately 5:49 p.m. on Friday, April 12.

Assistant District Attorney Viriginia Marciano stated Riddick had a prior felony conviction dating back to 1994 in Dutchess County and also said police may increase her charge to Grand Larceny in the Second Degree.

She also said Riddick has been a longtime employee of the business she allegedly took more than $130,000 in assets from and requested bail be increased to $50,000 from $5,000.

Riddick's Legal Aid Society attorney asked she be released on her own recognizance, stating she would be unable to make bail in either case.

Curley ruled to keep her bail set at $5,000. At Marciano's request, a temporary order of protection for Riddick's co-workers was issued and the case was adjourned to April 30.
