It’s a great year for hydrangeas and June is the month when they are at their absolute peak!

I discovered hydrangeas when I was a little girl, bicycling on Nantucket Island. The beautiful blue, purple, lavender, pink blooms against the sea-washed, weathered grey houses, would cause me stop pedaling, if only for a few minutes, to pick small hydrangea clusters to tuck into the band of my straw hat.
I have collected hydrangeas ever since, from wonderful mopheads to dainty lacecaps, carting them in my car from Nantucket Island to my garden in Briarcliff Manor. Local nurseries also have a good selection of different varieties of hydrangea and I urge you to visit them.
