Todd Playground Vote Today

Briarcliff Manor UFSD voters are invited to weigh in on a proposal for a $160K playground.

Briarcliff school district residents are expected to decide today whether to allocate $160,000 in unspent funds for a new K-2 playground at . The polls will be open in the Todd gymnasium from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

If voters approve the spending and the district meets its construction goals, the new playground could be up and running by next month, school officials estimate.

The new playground would be built on the site of the old one, which was razed this year. It would not, officials formally declared earlier, have “a significant adverse impact on the environment.”

Plans drawn by a teacher/parent committee call for replacing the playground’s pea gravel surface with the kind of rubberized fall-zone area now in the playground for grades 3-5.

If approved by the voters, $160,000 from the district’s unassigned fund balance—money previously budgeted but not spent—would cover the cost of construction, expected to be completed no later than the second week of September.
