Generine Vaccaro Mantegna Anderson, 80, formerly of Port Chester, died on Aug. 2, 2012.
She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Daniel Vaccaro. Generine graduated from Port Chester High School in 1950. She retired from the Telephone Co. SNET after 36 years and was a member of the Telephone Co. Pioneers Group.
Generine is survived by her son Joseph Mantegna, her sister-in-law Audrey Mantegna, her nieces and nephews; Martha Magdon, Mary Ellen Beadle, Nancy Vaccaro, Cathy Mantegna Scott, Daniel Caracelo, Delores Caracelo, Thomas Amendola, Jr. and Gary Mantegna. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her siblings Jennie Caracelo, Marge Amendola, Anthony (Sonny Vac) Vaccaro, Dorothy Tiscia and her former husband Frank Mantegna.
Calling hours are at Castiglione Funeral Home 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich, CT, today, Sunday, August 5, 2012, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services are set for Monday, Aug. 6, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Internment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwich.
Howard A. Bernfeld
Howard A. Bernfeld of Williamsburg, VA, formerly of Port Chester, died on Aug. 2, 2012, in Williamsburg.
Howard was born on Sept. 12, 1954, in Port Chester. He was the son of Sonya Bernfeld of Port Chester and the late Arnold Bernfeld, who served as Port Chester village treasurer for many years.
Howard was a member of the Boy Scouts and of . He graduated from Port Chester High School in 1972 and was a member of the High School Band that marched in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA in 1972.
He attended Quinnipiac College for two years.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, the former Mariann Malizia, their three children, Miriam Tietjens and her husband Jerry, Kristine Patterson and her husband Tren and Robert Bernfeld and his wife Ashley, three grandchildren, Gennero Tietjens, Peyton Patterson and Samuel Bernfeld, his brother, William Bernfeld, his godmother, Ruth Cohen and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service and interment will be held at the chapel at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Putnam Valley, NY, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 6. Visitation will be held following the burial at his mother's home, 170 Fairview Ave., Port Chester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Pkwy, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
Louis P. Cairo
Louis P. Cairo, a longtime Port Chester resident, died on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012. He was 93.
Mr. Cairo worked for Life Savers in Port Chester for 30 years. He was born Oct. 17, 1918, to John and Vienna Celestino Cairo. He graduated from Port Chester High School in 1937. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He belonged to the DAV in Port Chester.
He married Mildred Christiano at on Nov. 24, 1946. Mr. Cairo was an avid New York Yankees fan.
He is survived by his daughter Lois and son-in-law Rico Ciancio. His granddaughter Dana Thomas and husband Bill. His grandson Frank Ciancio and wife Kim. And his four great-grandchildren Emma, Frankie, Ava and Lily. He is predeceased by his wife Mildred, mother and father John and Vienna, and his brother Michael.
Calling hours are today, Sunday, Aug 5, 2012, from 4-8 p.m. at Tutera Funeral Home, Port Chester. Mass at Corpus Christi Church at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at St. Marys Cemetery.
