UPDATE: Police ID Man Found Dead in Port Jefferson Harbor

Police say the man "appears to have drowned."

UPDATE 7:15 p.m.: Police have ID'ed the body found in the harbor as 28-year-old Marlon Lewis, who was homeless. Lewis "appears to have drowned," police said. A Village of Port Jefferson constable found the body around 1:45 p.m.

The investigation is continuing and an autopsy will be performed by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

PORT JEFFERSON, NY - Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a body discovered in Port Jefferson Harbor on Thursday afternoon.

Detectives say they have determined that the person's death was due to "accidental drowning." Police have not released the gender or identity of the victim.

The body was found around 1:45 p.m. near the Port Jefferson Yacht Club and initial speculation was that it may have been 23-year-old Gerson Salmon-Negron, the Queens man who remains missing following the small plane crash into the harbor last month, but police quickly confirmed that "the victim is not the victim of the plane crash."
