Four Injured In Boat Fire In Port Jefferson Harbor

Four people on board a recreational boat suffered burn injuries Sunday afternoon after jumping off a burning boat.

Four people suffered burns after their 35-foot recreational boat erupted in flames in Port Jefferson Harbor Sunday afternoon. The Port Jefferson Fire Department responded to the scene at 12:50 p.m. The boat was fully engulfed in flames and floating toward the Danfords Marina dock when firefighters arrived.

Four people jumped off the boat shortly after the fire started to escape the flames. Assistance was immediately requested from the Terryville Fire Department, Setauket Fire Department and Mount Sinai Fire Department.

Marine fire boats from Port Jefferson Fire Department and Setauket Fire Department used fire-retardant foam from their boats to control the fire which was being fueled by gallons of gasoline. According to Port Jefferson Fire Department Chief Brennan Holmes, "Port Jefferson Ex-Chief Charles Russo did an excellent job operating the Port Jefferson Fire Department boat which allowed us to stop the boat from getting into Danfords Hotel & Marina dock."
