New York State grant helped village complete work to link the harbor from pier to pier.

The installation of new railing at Danfords Lot continues to move forward despite inclement weather, according to Mayor Margot Garant.

The railing is part of project to overhaul Harborfront Park's walkway.

In 2011, to complete the walkway between the Brookhaven Town Harborwalk and Harborfront Park, matching $100,000 that the village already set aside for the project.

Brookhaven completed renovation of its side of the walkway, replacing old decking, adding new lighting and posts, stainless steel handrails, wood ladders and completing other renovations to the dock and parking lot, including the removal of two old gas tanks.

With the money from this grant, the village will complete the work. As of now the connection between the Brookhaven side and Harborfront Park is unfinished with wooden two-by-fours instead of the stainless steel handrails that were installed by the Town to the west of the village-owned walkway.

It is, according to Garant, the last part of the overall Harborfront Park master plan.

The look of the new railing and boardwalk adds to the attractiveness of the village, according to Brookhaven Town Councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld, who commented on the work the Town completed on the marina almost two years ago.

“The Harbor itself, and its new facelift, is the main attraction for people visiting the beautiful shops and all the wonderful amenities the village has to offer," he said.
