Port Jefferson Brewery Wants You To Name Its New Beer

Brew will be the company’s first standard India Pale Ale, a bitter variety of beer.

Port Jefferson Brewery Wants You To Name Its New Beer

The new India Pale Ale (IPA) being brewed in the village has just about everything needed for a planned release sometime this spring. A test batch on Port Jefferson Brewing Company's big system is being brewed next week and according to owner Michael Philbrick the beer will be ready at the end of the month or in early March. The plan is to have this beer in 12 oz. bottles soon after.

The only thing they still need is a name.

Philbrick said that he's looking to customers and fans to help them out on this one.

Great White Whale India Pale, Sunken Vessel, Sea Dog IPA and Peg-leg IPA are just some of the names that people have come up with for the new brew so far since it was announced by the company on Facebook.

People can submit a maritime themed name for the beer on their Twitter account and on their Facebook post announcing the contest.

“…also by writing on plain old paper at the tasting room,” said Philbrick.

This is the brewery’s first standard IPA and it  uses four different hops to give the variety its unique bitter flavor.

The contest ends Feb. 8 and the winner will get a free growler of the beer when it’s released.

We’ve already submitted our entry: Patchy IPA.
