Village Board OKs New Outdoor Dining Code

New regs halt outdoor dining sales at 11 p.m.

Village Board OKs New Outdoor Dining Code

After holding a public hearing on the proposal earlier this month, the Port Jefferson Board of Trustees approved new regulations on Monday related to outdoor dining in the village.

According to the Port Times Record, Mayor Margot Garant said at the meeting that the new regs give the village "more enforcement [ability], ties in the music and the noise [code], which we have to complete."

The new outdoor dining regulations tighten up chapter  250-58 of the village code, adding a space requirement of 20 square feet per seat, halting outdoor dining at 11 p.m., while extending the seasonal permit a month from an April 15 start date to March 15. The regulations also tie in outdoor musical performances to stopping by 11 p.m. on weekends.

Also, providing service to anyone who is not ordering food is prohibited, according to the report.

While trustees approved the outdoor dining changes, a proposal to improve the village noise code is also in the works, which would work hand-in-hand with Monday's changes.
