2012 Election: New York 7th Senate District

This time around, race in this district lacks controversy.

2012 Election: New York 7th Senate District

After a drag-out election in 2010 that ended with a ballot recount, the bid for New York’s Seventh District seems tame by comparison for voters heading to the polls on Nov. 6.

Now, first-term Sen. Jack Martins, R-Mineola, who defeated Democratic incumbent Craig Johnson in the close 2010 race, faces off against Daniel Ross, D-Manhasset.

The former mayor of Mineola, Martins says he is committed to fiscal integrity, tax relief and job creation, as well as mandate relief for schools and local government. Ross, a captain with the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department and automobile sales manager, says he is devoted to strengthening education and job creation, and adds that he takes issues about the environment, safety and equality very seriously.

District: The Seventh Senate District covers Albertson, East Williston, Floral Park, Garden City Park, Great Neck, Herricks, Hicksville, Lake Success, Manhasset, Manorhaven, Mineola, New Hyde Park, Old Westbury, Port Washington, Roslyn, Sands Point, Stewart Manor, Westbury and Williston Park.
