Icing expected on Port Washington roads overnight.

Port Police: Travel Only if Necessary
As residents continue to dig out from a snow storm that dumped about nine inches in the area overnight, Port Washington police are recommending drivers to limit time on roadways.

"I would advise motorists to travel only if absolutely necessary," said Port Washington Police Chief James Salerno. "Caution should be used as snow and ice conditions are present on the roads."

A quick tour of Port Washington Friday found most main roads to be plowed, but not completely clear of snow, ice and slush. The majority of side streets remained slick with snow and ice.

Highway crews in both the town and village have been out throughout the day, but with temperatures expected to drop well below freezing and gusty winds causing drifting in some areas, icing is expected t increase on roadways.

Friday night's forecast is calling for brisk and cold with lows around zero with Northwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph and wind chill values as low as 5 below, according to the National Weather Service.
