Port Washington Water District Hosts Young Water Professionals

The Water District is committed to supporting our Young Professionals

On Wednesday, March 8th the Port Washington Water District hosted the Long Island Water Conference (LIWC) Young Water Professionals Committee to facilitate a tour of our Bar Beach water production and treatment facility. Stephen Laun, Project Engineer for D&B Engineers and Architects and Committee member, lead the tour for the 15 committee participates. Mr. Laun was the project engineer for the recent Bar Beach wellhead treatment system design and construction. District Superintendent Paul Granger was on hand to provide support and answer operational questions.

The LIWC is an alliance of 50 public and private drinking water purveyors and other industry professionals within Nassau and Suffolk Counties that supply potable water to more than three million people. Young professionals represent a dynamic and energetic group of members in the LIWC. However, this group has traditionally been under-represented in the membership of the organization. As the membership ages, it is vital to increase the involvement of young water professionals in the activities of the LIWC and water supply systems such as the Port Washington Water District.

Young professionals are generally considered to be members or prospective members age 35 and under, or those new to the water industry. This includes those working for utilities, regulatory agencies, consulting firms, or academic institutions. The LIWC considers all of its members to be water industry professionals.
