Village of Manorhaven: No Plan to Evacuate as of Friday Morning

The Village of Manorhaven, as of Friday morning, is not planning to evacuate because of Hurricane Irene. The storm could make landfall on Long Island at some point Sunday.

"There are no plans to evacuate as of right now," said Carmela Aiello, the deputy village clerk.

If there is a need to evacuate, everyone with a landline will be contacted by Nassau County and the Town of North Hempstead, she said. People who live and work in the village who sign up for NorthShoreAlert, a mass notification system for the peninsula, will also receive timely and critical information by cell phone, email, or both, about any evacuation plans.

The Village of Manorhaven encourages locals to sign up for NorthShoreAlert. To register, visit  NorthShoreAlert.org.
