Census Data Released: Riverhead's Population Rise Well Above the Trend
With a 21 percent increase between 2000 and 2010, Riverhead far outpaced county, state, national levels.

Census data from 2010 was released on Thursday by the United States Census Bureau, indicating that the population of Riverhead has grown by 21 percent in the past decade, well above the national, state and county averages.
Country-wide, the population of the United States rose from 281.4 million in 2000 to 308.7 million in 2010, a jump of 9.7 percent. New York State's population rose 2 percent to 19.3 million, while Suffolk County welcomed an additional 5 percent.
As a percentage of that population, the Hispanic demographic in Riverhead has risen drastically in the past ten years, a trend , when 2009 numbers came out for the American Community Survey.

According to census numbers, the percentage of Riverhead's population identifying itself as Hispanic or Latino more than doubled, from 6 percent of the town's population in 2000 to 13.8 percent in 2010.
The American Community Survey, also performed by the U.S. Census Bureau, is a survey which makes estimates based on the responses it receives. The census attempts to count every household in the country. The ACS estimated that 34,405 people lived in Riverhead in 2009, while the census showed the town's population was 33,506 in 2010.
