Fire In Boarded-Up Riverhead Home Extinguished: Police

BREAKING: The Suffolk County arson squad is extinguishing the cause of the fire, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Firefighters raced to the scene of a fire in a boarded-up residence in Riverhead early Sunday morning, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, a call came in at 12:01 a.m. about a structure fire on Melene Avenue, a vacant house.

Members of the police department arrived first on the scene and found a small fire in the kitchen area of the home; Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the fire, police said.

Riverhead Police, along with the Suffolk County Police Department's arson squad, are investigating the cause of the fire, police said.
