Man Dies After Being Found Unconscious In Crashed SUV: Cops

The SUV struck a utility pole, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A man died after he was found unconscious in a Baiting Hollow crash Friday night, police said.

According to Riverhead Police, the crash took place at 9:36 p.m.; police said they received a 911 call about a mid-sized SUV that had struck a utility pole in the westbound lane of Sound Avenue.

The vehicle was occupied by an unconscious male driver and a conscious female passenger; CPR was in progress as police and EMTs arrived on scene, police said.

The driver was transported via Wading River Fire Department Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center; the passenger was also treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The driver was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at PBMC, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division was notified and responded; the vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.
