A week after Reeves Beach resident John Scorzelli Jr. died tragically in a Sound Avenue car accident, relatives and friends are coming together to set up a scholarship fund for the two young sons he left behind.
Scorzelli, a physician's assistant who loved the beach and lacrosse, devoted his life to building a nurturing and loving home for his wife, Maria, and their sons Odin, 9, and Honor, who will turn 8 this week, and , and the kindness and dignity with which he treated his patients.
And when he died, hearts were broken as a community came forward to mourn him, with hundreds lining up in Riverhead to pay their last respects.
In lieu of flowers, the Scorzelli family asked that donations be made to the Scorzelli Children's Education Fund. According to the Scorzelli family, 529 plans have been set up at Citibank; all funds will be deposited into the boys' future college accounts. 529 plans are educational savings plans operated by New York State to help families save for future college costs.
