Man Arrested on DWI Charges Attacks Westchester Police Officers During Booking: Police
A 54-year-old Bronx man attacked two Westchester County police officers early Thursday morning after the man had been arrested on driving while intoxicated charges on the Saw Mill River Parkway.

Joe Chamberlain allegedly punched one officer in the face twice and slammed another against a cell while he was being booked.

Below is the full press release from the Westchester County Police Department describing the incident:

A Bronx man is facing assault and DWI charges after he was arrested for driving drunk on the Saw Mill River Parkway and then attacked two Westchester County police officers while he was being booked at police headquarters in Hawthorne.

Joe Chamberlain, 54, of Henry Hudson Parkway, Bronx, was stopped by officers at 2:09 a.m. Thursday at a sobriety checkpoint on the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway at Lawrence Street in Dobbs Ferry. As officers spoke with Chamberlain, they detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He was removed from the car and subsequently failed a field sobriety test.

While being booked on the DWI charge, Chamberlain became combative, punching one officer in the face two times and slamming another up against a cell.  He was subdued after a struggle.

One of the officers, whose eye was swollen shut, was taken to the emergency room at Westchester Medical Center where he was treated for cuts and bruises around his right eye and released.

Chamberlain was arraigned Thursday in Mount Pleasant Town Court and released pending a future court appearance.
