Volunteers Needed for Mid Island Collision's Sandy Victim Drive

The Rockville Centre-based automotive repair center is looking for volunteers to help create bags of meals.

Volunteers Needed for Mid Island Collision's Sandy Victim Drive

Robert Jesberger, owner of Mid Island Collision, a Rockville Centre-based automotive repair center, recently purchased more than $100,000 in non-perishable food items -- enough to fill five tractor-trailers -- which will provide more than 10,000 Thanksgiving meals to Long Island charitable organizations and individuals and families devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

Jesberger is calling for hundreds of volunteers to donate some of their time between 12 p.m. on Nov. 20 throughout the night to 2 p.m. on Nov. 21 to assist in creating bags of meals.

"Superstorm Sandy left thousands of people desperate and devastated; we need to do what we can to help them out in whatever ways possible," Jesberger said.

"Purchasing over $100,000 in food items and hosting the 'Fill-the-Bag' event allows my employees and I to continue to pay it forward by providing families with a holiday meal," he added. "Fellow Long Islanders are looking for a way to help and now they can, by simply giving their time."

This year’s “Fill-the-Bag’ meals will be picked up by Long Island residents, as well as charity organizations including WhyHunger, Long Island Association Aids Care, Meals on Wheels Association of America, Wounded Warrior Project, Building Homes for Heroes, The Inn in Hempstead, the Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth and countless schools, churches, synagogues and more.

"Mid Island Collision is more than just a center for auto repair. We care about people and will do what we can in order to help those who are less fortunate," Jesberger said. "With the help of volunteers, thousands of people will be able to have a healthy meal this Thanksgiving holiday."
