Recap of police incidents in Rye the weeks of Dec 15 to Dec 29.

Rye Police Blotter

There were several police incidents in Rye during the last few weeks. A  few thefts and break-ins were reported, as were incidents of vandalism involving public property and vehicles. Here's a recap of reported crimes in the area from Dec 15-Dec 29.

Car Break-In

Rye woman told police that someone broke into her car sometime overnight. Woman's car was parked in the driveway of her home near Forest Avenue. The victim parked her car at 11:15 at night and when she woke up just before 8 a.m. the next morning on Dec. 27, the front window on the passenger side was smashed and her purse was missing from the vehicle.

IPod Theft 

Rye woman reported that someone smashed window of her vehicle when she parked her car overnight near Grace Church Street on Dec. 28. The robber(s) apparently took an iPod and an iPod charger from the vehicle.

Bullet Hole in Window

Rye man reported that on Dec. 29 someone shot at the window of his home with a BB gun. Man said that while Con Edison was repairing the power line outside his house near Osborn Road, he heard a cracking sound from the kitchen. He doesn't know where the sound came from, but found a bullet hole in the front window pane.

Vandalism at Rye Town Park

Rye Town Park worker reported that sometime between Dec. 23 and Dec. 29 an unknown offender spray painted graffiti on the North-End cashier's booth.

Purse Stolen on Christmas Eve

Woman reported a theft from Rye Country Store on Christmas Eve. She later was notified by her credit card company of activity on her credit card in Hempstead, Long Island. Victim said it was the second time her purse was stolen from the store.

Reported Thefts at Osborn Retirement Community

Woman reported that on Dec. 14 her coat was stolen out of the Bistro. Woman was in the Bistro eating dinner and put her coat in the coat room. When she was leaving dinner at 7:50 p.m., her coat could not be found.  Another woman, a resident at Osborn, reported ongoing thefts from her wallet beginning on Oct. 29 up to Dec. 29, the date she reported the incident. She stated her wallet was in her bedroom and that different amounts had been stolen from her wallet on different occasions. Police and the retirement community's director are looking into the matter.

Overnight Slashing

Man told Rye Police that his two front tires were slashed overnight on Dec. 15. Victim's car was parked in the driveway of his Midland Ave. home.

Police Officer Injured

Rye Police Officer was injured while on duty. Officer said he injured his right knee while conducting a foot search for a suspect who fled from immigration authorities on North Street. The suspect had an outstanding immigration warrant.

Car Theft

Man called police saying that his daughter's car had been stolen on Milton Road on Dec. 15. Man said his daughter parked her car on Milton Road around 7:30 a.m. At 4:30 pm, she returned to the same area to find that her car was missing.
