Man Dies After Vehicle Crashes Into Long Island Expressway Divider: Cops

He pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital, Suffolk County police said.

HOLTSVILLE, NY — A Ridge man died early Saturday morning after the sedan he was driving struck a divider on the Long Island Expressway in Holtsville, Suffolk County police said.

Christian Aviles was driving a 2017 Subaru Legacy westbound on the Long Island Expressway, a quarter mile east of Exit 61, when the vehicle struck the center divider around 4 a.m., according to police.

Aviles, 37, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Detectives believe Aviles may have suffered a medical event before the crash.

Police impounded the sedan for a safety check.

The roadway was temporarily closed as police investigated the scene, then later reopened.

Sixth Squad detectives are continuing to investigate. They are asking anyone with information about the crash to call them at 631-854-8652.
