Eagle Scout Honored By Local Leader For Holtsville Ecology Work

Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner recognized two local Boy Scouts for their community service, one of whom worked on the contained bee hives at the Holtsville Ecology Center.

Bonner attended the Eagle Scout Ceremony for Kasey Wallace and Gordon Haner at Mount Sinai High School last Saturday, and presented them with "Certificates of Congratulations" on behalf of the town for earning their Eagle Scout rank.

Eagle Scout Wallace is credited with building three new display cases for the bee exhibit at the Holtsville Ecology site. The display cases are intended to educate visitors about hives and honey making. In addition to the new displays, Wallace also helped construct a protective fence around one of the display hives, and he donated educational literature about bees to the site.

Eagle Scout Haner received his rank for working on the town's Satterly Landing Park in Mount Sinai Harbor.

“I commend Gordon and Kasey for their service to the community and completing these projects that will benefit the residents of Brookhaven Town," Bonner said in a statement. "They are the leaders of tomorrow and set a great example for all to follow.”

According to the release, no more than four percent of all Scouts have attained the Eagle Scout rank since it was created in 1912.
