Holtsville, Holbrook Fire Departments Mark Fire Prevention Week

Open house, travel to elementary schools on the agenda this week for fire prevention and safety awareness.

Holtsville, Holbrook Fire Departments Mark Fire Prevention Week

This coming Sunday, the Holtsville Fire Department will hold its open house in honor of National Fire Prevention/Fire Safety Week.

The volunteer house on Waverly Avenue will open its doors at 4 p.m. on October 14 for residents to take a tour and learn about fire prevention. Visitors will get a chance to meet members of the Suffolk County Fire Marshal's office, who will be on hand with 'Jul' the Arson Detection Dog. Jul will hold a demonstration of her arson detection skills, so stop by and meet this clever canine. Call ahead to find out when Jul will make her appearance.

Holtsville is not the only fire house getting in on Fire Prevention Week. The Holbrook Fire Department has been visiting the three area elementary schools in its district: Nokomis, Grundy, and Merrimac. The visits help students learn about fire prevention and gives them a chance to see how a real fire truck functions.
