Steve Casali In The Running For 'Heart of a Giant' Prize

New York Giants campaign aimed at recognizing players who exemplify "giant" leadership and hard work.

Steve Casali In The Running For 'Heart of a Giant' Prize

Sachem East running back Steven Casali has been entered into the running to benefit from an NFL campaign that could bring $5,000 in equipment to the high school.

Casali is one of 10 varsity football players whose story has been selected for the Timex Week 9 "Heart of a Giant" campaign, according to the Sachem Report. The outreach effort is sponsored by the New York Giants and USA Football as a way of acknowleding students who exemplify committment, determination, will and character on the gridiron.

Casali joins three other Long Islanders (one from Brooklyn the other from Newfield High in Selden) as part of the 10 Week 9 candidates. The campaign will feature 10 new players every week until the end of the season and then narrow the pool down to six worthy candidates. If Casali receives enough votes from friends and the community he could be in the running to earn the grand prize: $5,000 in donated sports equipment to Sachem East and on-the-field recognition at Met Life Stadium during the Giant's week 17 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

In an email to Patch, supporters of Casali's nomination implored the community to help the senior running back out.

"Please vote and post this on your Facebook to tell your friends to vote for Steve, because his football team will get $5,000 if he wins," the email stated. "It would be great if he can get that for the future of Sachem East football."

Your vote can be cast on the USA Football "Heart of a Giant" microsite.
