Hurricane and storms present a big challenge to fire and rescue organizations and the Sayville Fire Department began prepping last week for Monday's impending weather.
Department members have met with local officials regarding emergency response strategies and evacuation plans, if needed, and preparing for in-house stand by operations.
"We've fueled up the tools and contacted local nursing homes to make sure they know how to reach us if they need us," said Department Chief Tom Pantano.
"We are making sure all fire appartus is checked," he added, noting that LIPA is also providing support services for residents requiring medical assistance.
The Long Island Power Authority's Critical Care program provides early warning of weather issues that might cause outages so advanced preparations can be made. For more information about LIPA’s Critical Care Program call 1-800-490-0025 or visit this website.
"They will assist in anyway to provide residents with oxygen or any other health required apparatus," he said.
