Sayville Library Board Challenger: Joseph Loughren

Joseph Loughren says he is running for Sayville Library trustee to help enhance the services at the library and help the library become what he believes every library should be: a true community center.

As someone who has worked as a library business manager for eight years, he believes he has the experience and skills to make that happen.

“First off, I am a great admirer of libraries and I really love Sayville. We have a beautiful new building, some great programs, and some terrific, dedicated staff members but there is always room for improvement,” he told Patch in an email. “I want to be certain that our library offers the services that our community deserves and expects, and that it does so efficiently.”

The Sayville homeowner said every library should provides exceptional service that doesn’t cripple the taxpayer base.

“I fully believe that is the responsibility of elected officials, of all rank, to ensure that life on Long Island is affordable,” he said.

Loughren says he has over 16 years of financial administration experience in corporate, library, and university environments and earned his MBA from Hofstra University in 1998. He is currently pursuing a PhD in College and University Leadership at Colorado State University.

On the volunteer side, he served two terms as president of a Rotary Club, was the inaugural President of the Suffolk County Library Association Support Services Division and treasurer of the Suffolk County Library Association. He also teach a graduate level course on finance in higher education at Stony Brook University.

“I am truly dedicated to serving Sayville as a library trustee. I know libraries, I know finance, and truly love our town,” says Loughren, who has established a website about himself and his background.
