Julius Michael: Celeb Hair In Scarsdale

The Julius Michael hair salon in the village styles manes from around the country.

From Scarsdale residents to Real Housewives, Julius Michael creates celeb-worthy styles for all of his clients.

The salon co-owner and known for his hair extensions, styles and grooms the locks of locals and celebrities–including stars of Bravo's Real Housewives reality television series.

On Tuesday night, his salon was packed with clients, including local model Cynthia Florek, reality TV star Kathy Wakile of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, her husband and daughter, along with a variety of Westchester residents waiting to get primped.

Wakile travels from Wayne, N.J., to see Michael, and he often travels to her home to get her ready for TV appearances.

Michael, a White Plains resident, opened the boutique salon with his former client Monica Wald in May 2011.

With eight stylists on staff, the Christie Place salon sees about 400 clients a week, Wald said.

"I was never in the hair industry before, but I wouldn't trade it for the world," Wald, a former teacher and Armonk resident, said.

Her partner has been in the hair industry for the past 14 years and the native New Yorker has been living in Westchester for the past 13.

"I love that I can be as creative as I want to be," Michael said of owning his own salon.

He is currently working on a line of hair extensions, brushes and cosmetic bags, he said.

Michael works with Wakile exclusively and also styles the hair of The Real Housewives of Orange County’s Tamra Barney, flying out to California to take care of her locks.

The stylist said he had never imagined he would be cutting the hair of celebs around the country, but as a child, he had a huge love for hair.

"I was always obsessed with hair," he said, adding that he would comb and style the hair all of the girls in his family.

Now, he is coloring, cutting and styling from his Scarsdale salon seven days a week.

Both owners of the Christie Place shop said they are big fans of their Scarsdale village location.

"I love the people in Scarsdale," Michael said. "They've been so welcoming since we've opened."

Co-owner Wald said the village has "really, really embraced us. We love being in the village. It's a really close-knit community and we love our clients."
