Scarsdale in the Dark, Power to be Restored by 9 p.m.

A fire at a Con Edison substation in White Plains caused the outage that may be leaving you and some neighbors powerless at this very moment.

You're not alone. The latest report, which came from Mayor Carolyn Stevens at 6:25 p.m., has 1,961 Scarsdale households – more than a third of the village – in the dark tonight, but Con Ed estimates that we will be 100-percent restored by 9 p.m.

The greatest portion of outages have occurred largely in Fox Meadow and Greenacres. According to Mayor Stevens, Con Ed has brought in three truck-sized generators in an attempt to restore power at least temporarily for the entire village.

The generators arrived early this afternoon, and among them will take six to eight hours until they are fully operational.

The response is a 180-degree change from the efficiency's reaction to the March 13 storm which rendered 70 percent of the village without power for what seemed like the longest week in history.

As always, check in with your neighbors during this critical time, and be especially mindful of those who are excessively vulnerable to the heat. Read more tips from the Westchester Red Cross here.

According to Con Ed, the substation fire, which occurred at New St. and Roosevelt Ave., compromised the infratstructure of power cables, and the utlity fears that, even with power restored, some feeder cables could become overloaded and knock out power to others.
