Cops: Two Drunk Drivers Cause Accidents Near Smithtown Bull

Cops: Two Drunk Drivers Cause Accidents Near Smithtown Bull
Miguel Avelar, 31, of Central Islip was arrested on Nov. 10 in Smithtown and faces one misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated - first offense. Police said Avelar was driving a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder on Route 25A when he got into a motor vehicle accident in front of St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center. Officers responding to the scene said Avelar was intoxicated. 

Brian Fischer, 27, of Smithtown was arrested Nov. 9 and faces one misdemeanor charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs - first offense. Fischer was driving a 2012 Chrysler 200 near the intersection of West Main Street and Route 25A, near the bull, when he got into a motor vehicle accident, according to police. Officers responding to the scene determine Fischer was under the influence of drugs. 

David Itterly, 31, of Ronkonkoma was arrested on Nov. 8 and charged with one felony count of fourth-degree grand larceny and one felony count of third-degree criminal mischief of property. Police said Itterly broke into a Nesconset home sometime between Sept. 11 and Oct. 10, taking items that belonged to another person worth more than $1,000. The exact items stolen were not specified by police. 
Itterly also was arrested for allegedly kicking in the rear taillight, two side view mirrors and the side of a 2009 Mazda on Olive Street in Lake Grove, according to police. 

Robert DeCosta Jr., 37, of Kings Park was arrested on Nov. 7 and charged with driving while intoxicated - first offense. Police said DeCosta was driving on Landing Avenue in Smithtown, driving on the wrong side of the roadway when he lost control of his vehicle striking a landscaping boulder and a parked vehicle. Officers called to the scene of the accident found DeCosta was intoxicated.
