The Smithtown Central School District will hear public input on the possible closing of Nesconset Elementary and the Citizens Advisory Committee report.

Locals can publicly voice opinions on the possible closing and the Citizens Advisory Committee final report Wednesday night.

A public hearing is set for 7 p.m. at Nesaquake Middle School.

When the committee decided to put the closing to a vote Jan. 5, 17 voting members voted for the closing of Nesconset Elementary; four voted in favor of closing Mills Pond Elementary.

The committee made four other recommendations in the final report – not implementing the Princeton Plan that would moves students in groups from kindergarten to second grade and grades three through five, renting and not selling the vacant school building, relocating central offices if the district could benefit financially from the move, and studying the sale of vacant or undeveloped district land.
