Driver Dies After Overturn Crash Ending In Woods
The 79-year-old was driving when her car veered off the roadway and into an embankment in the woods Thursday afternoon.
SMITHTOWN, NY - A driver died after an overturn crash ending in the woods in Smithtown Thursday afternoon, according to Suffolk Police.
Patricia Schmidt, 79, was driving a 2001 Honda Accord, making a right turn out of the parking lot of 291 West Main Street to head westbound, when the car veered off the roadway, went down an embankment and into the woods at 1:25 p.m.
Detectives believe she may have suffered a medical event.

Members of the Smithtown Fire Department also responded and extricated Schmidt from the car.
Schmidt, of Smithtown, was transported to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown where she was pronounced dead.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check.
