Eleanor Massarotti Musarra of Southampton Dies at 89

Eleanor Massarotti Musarra, of Southampton, died at the home of her niece Lisa Moore on Friday. She was 89.

Born on April 27, 1923, in the Bronx, she attended school there and became a buyer for the department store Gimbels. During that time she met and married the love of her life, Joseph Musarra, and the couple moved to Manhassett and eventually purchased a home in Southampton.

Musarra and her husband, Joe, were avid golfers, both members of the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club and Marco Island Country Club.

One of her proudest moments was in 1986 when she won the North and South Senior Women's Invitational Governor's Flight low net.

Musarra was an avid traveler and enjoyed sharing this passion with her family. She had many friends who adored her company and zest for adventure, her laughter was infectious.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1982, her brother Vincent Massarotti in 2003, and her stepson Richard Mussara.

Musarra is survived by her nephew Vincent Massarotti and his wife, Mary; nephews Chris, David, Glenn and his wife, Holly Massarotti; niece Lisa Massarotti Moore and her husband, Wayne; her sister-in-law, Joanne Massarotti; her stepdaughter, Delores Plunkett; her step-grandchildren, Leigh Ann, Donna, Mark, Richard, Ginny and Mimi; and many grand nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held on Friday, Jan. 18, at Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with a parish prayer service beginning at 3 p.m.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Basilica Parish Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton at 9:30 am. Entombment will follow at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations maybe made to East End Hospice and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
