To make walking and bicycling to school safer, Pine Street in Southampton Village — where is located — has undergone a transformation this summer that means new traffic patterns for motorists.
When school begins on Sept. 5, Pine Street will be a one-way street, northbound, between Meeting House Lane and the municipal parking lot. It will be a two-way street from the parking lot to Hampton Road, but only left turns will be permitted out of the parking lot.
The project was funded by Southampton Village and the Safe Routes to School program, a local, state and federal initiative.
All school arrival and dismissal procedures will remain the same, according to the .
School hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m., with a breakfast program running between 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m.
