Thunderstorm, High Winds in Store for South Fork

There is a 100 percent chance of rain on the South Fork Wednesday night, with winds gusts of up to 60 miles per hour, posing a hazard to pedestrians and motorists and potentially causing property damage.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning, taking effect Wednesday at 6 p.m. and lasting overnight. Showers are expected by 5 p.m., with a thunderstorm beginning after midnight.

The warning states that south winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour, could bring down large tree limbs, whole trees and power lines, as well as unsecured items outdoors.

Rainfall accumulation is expected to be between half and three-quarters of an inch.

The temperature is expected to remain above the freezing point, sparing drivers from black ice, but heavy rain will still prove hazardous and motorists should exercise extra caution.
