Bridget Hamilton: Past Grand Marshal of the Putnam County St. Patrick's Day Parade

Bridget ‘Bridie’ Hamilton of Brewster, New York, died Monday, March 17, 2014, after a brief illness. She was 77 years old. 

Mrs. Hamilton was born August 8, 1936 in Streamstown, Cloonfad, County Roscommon, daughter of the late Patrick and Anne (Davis) Heneghan. She graduated from school in Ireland.   She immigrated to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, NY.  On Nov. 17, 1956 she married John J. ‘Sean’ Hamilton at St. Cecilia’s Church in Brooklyn, NY.  They later moved their family to Brewster, NY in 1973 and became members of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church.  

Mrs. Hamilton retired from the Carmel Post Office with over 20 years of service.   She was a proud member of the Emerald Association of Putnam County.  She was honored to be Emerald of the year and together with her husband, past grand marshals of the Putnam County St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  She also served as treasurer of the Kiwanis Club of Brewster.  

Mrs. Hamilton is survived by her five children; John ‘Sean’ Hamilton of Brewster, NY, Patrick Hamilton of Burlington, CT, Maureen Fitzgibbons of Hartwood, VA, Daniel Hamilton of Dover Plains, NY, Patricia Corey of Hyde Park, NY, two sisters; Mary Blair of Esperance, NY and her twin sister Margaret Brennan of Streamstown, Cloonfad, County Roscommon, Ireland, ten grandchildren, Megan, Sean, Katy, Joseph, Kevin, Brendan, Patrick, Brian, Liza and Macayla.   She was predeceased by her son Richard, and husband Sean. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 20, 2014 10:00 AM at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster, NY.  Interment following at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster.  Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 4 to 8 pm.   

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Hamilton’s memory may be made to St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, 31 Prospect St., Brewster, NY 10509 or The Franciscan Friars of the Atonement,  1350 Route 9,  Garrison, NY 10524.
