In 1970, Brewster Folks Awaited I-84 Link

Front-page news also included details of a Danbury, CT art show featuring a Brewster resident.

In 1970, Brewster Folks Awaited I-84 Link

About 42 years ago, folks looking to catch up on local news were met with stories about a burglary, a serious car crash, upcoming holiday sales and more.

That's according to the Nov. 26, 1970 issue of the  Brewster Standard, available online via the Brewster Public Library. The paper existed from 1869 to 1982, and covered the Brewster-Southeast area, as well as Danbury (CT), Pawling, Peekskill, Poughkeepsie, White Plains and Yonkers.

A tiny blurb, "Opening of 84 Link Anticipated by All," sits in the bottom, left-hand corner of the front-page. It reads:

Cars of men working on the last 6 miles of the famous link in 84, Brewster to Lake Carmel, slip through the lanes under completion. So it's natural everyone hopes the big Thruway can be officially opened soon.
