Police: Man Slashes Fellow Party Guest after Trying to Cut his Throat
Police arrived at the party after receiving a 911 call, and found Jose Cardona, of 17 Center St., Brewster, on the front lawn. Witnesses told police Cardona accosted a 26-year-old fellow guest, put him in a chokehold, and attempted to cut his throat. As the homeowner intervened, Cardona slashed the victim across his face.
After conducting interviews, Investigator Michael Nalbone of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested Cardona.
The 22-year-old is charged with second-degree assault, a felony, second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, misdemeanors. If convicted of the most serious charge, he could face up to seven years in state prison.
Cardona was arraigned before Carmel town Justice Joseph Spofford acting on behalf of Southeast Town Court. He was sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail or $200,000 bond.
The victim was taken by Brewster Volunteer Ambulance to Danbury Hospital, where he was treated and released, police said.
