Two Brewster High School students committed Thursday to continuing their athletic careers in college.
Chris Leggio signed a letter of intent to play football at Post University in Waterbury, CT. Ariana Bottalico penned her signature at the bottom of a document detailing her plans to run at Fordham University in the Bronx.
“You’re sad to see these athletes who have done great things for Brewster High School go,” Athletic Director Dean Berardo said, “but at the same time you’re excited that they’re happy with the decisions they’ve made, the research they’ve done and the opportunity for them to extend their careers to the next level.”
Leggio’s selection process started with a number of schools, between five and 10, and ended when he decided he loved the atmosphere and comaraderie at Post.
“I’m very excited,” the future business-administration major said.
His parents and younger sister are too. They plan to attend every game, just as they did at Brewster, which is about 40 minutes from Post.
Bottalico’s choice is also fairly close to home. She is anxious about starting at Fordham, where she’ll be a member of both the cross-country and track teams.
“I applied to 12 schools, and did overnights at eight,” she said. “So the fall was pretty stressful. But I always liked Fordham.”
One of Brewster’s star runners, who has been a standout since middle school, Bottalico is still deciding on a major.
