In a sea of red and white graduation gowns, seniors excitedly proceeded into Hofstra University’s David S. Mack Sports Complex on June 25 as students – and officially left as high school graduates. The Class of 2014 marched into the arena to the traditional “Pomp and Circumstance,” performed by the high school orchestra, with senior members of the Adelettes group singing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Valedictorian Reva Abrol, salutatorian Jake Miller and class speaker Jennifer Herrmann took to the podium during the 56th school and reflect on what lies ahead in their bright futures.

Justin Lafazan and Natalie Mathews presented the class gift during the ceremony. After careful consideration, the Class of 2014 decided its gift would be a three-dimensional printer. The graduates hope that this gift will leave a legacy at the high school and allow students to further their studies and innovate on a daily basis.

Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ronald Friedman, Principal Dr. Giovanni Durante and members of the Board of Education congratulated all of the students on their graduation and wished them the best of luck in all their future endeavors. Dr. Durante then led the presentation of awards, which included the recognition of National Merit Scholars, Finalists and Commended students, as well as the Intel Science Talent Search Semifinalists, Siemens Competition Semifinalist, Siemens Competition Regional Finalist and the Elisabeth T. Babcock Award winner. PTA/STA Scholarship and SEPTA awards  were also distributed to graduates.

Members of the Board of Education presented students with their diplomas as they passed across the stage, with administrators, faculty and staff looking on, marking the students’ official transition from Syosset High School students to alumni.
