Two Men in Minivan Steal Packages Left at Door Steps

Two men driving an old mini van with out-of-state plates stole packages that had been delivered to homes in, Farmingdale and Bethpage Wednesday afternoon.

Nassau County detectives said the two men were spotted at 11:15 a.m. driving a white minivan attempting to break into a locked U.S. Postal Service mail truck parked in front of a home on Pasture Lane in Old Bethpage. The suspects' vehicle appeared to be a 2000 Dodge Odyssey or Chrysler Town and Country mini van with a black bumper, police said.

When one of the suspects saw the postal vehicle was locked, he got back into the minivan bearing out-of-state plates and drove off with his partner.

Then, at about 12:30 p.m., the suspects took several Federal Express boxes left in front of a home on Van Cott Avenue in Farmingdale. The pair removed the contents and left the boxes behind before fleeing.

About 45 minutes later, the suspects struck again, removing a UPS package and another package from two residences on Avoca Ave. in Bethpage, police said.

The thieves were described as two black men. The first, a passenger in the van, is 25-30 years old with a thin build, a beard and mustache, short hair and wearing a white tee shirt.  There is no description for the driver.

Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.
